Postdoctoral fellow. High resolution retinal imaging system ISO dedicated, loving partner and caretaker. The successful candidate will join a team of scientists and engineers that are developing new ways to look at the living human retina and how its structure and function are affected by disease. Our research is truly on the cutting edge of retinal imaging and retinal neuroscience. Candidates may come from a variety of backgrounds, but an ideal candidate would have expertise in one or more of the following areas: optical design and engineering, electrical engineering and signal processing, neuroscience, computer science / machine vision. Our lab is a well-funded, collegial environment, and has trained several students and post-docs who have later achieved success in academia and industry. Research directions will by shaped by the expertise and skills of the candidate, but on the balance we have more imaging systems right now than personnel to maintain and use them, so construction of a new imaging system is a low priority. We especially encourage applications from those whose demographics are underrepresented in biomedical engineering. We love Python, Linux, LaTeX, Markdown, and Git. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience. Applications reviewed until a suitable candidate is found. If you’re interested in applying but want to find out more, drop me a line.

Junior specialist. We’re looking for a motivated individual who would like a couple of years of experience in clinical research, possibly as preparation for graduate or medical studies. The successful candidate will join a team of scientists and engineers that are developing new ways to look at the living human retina and how its structure and function are affected by disease. The main tasks would be: 1) imaging the retinae of healthy volunteers and patients with retinal disease, using a research-grade, custom-built imaging system; and 2) processing the resulting images using an existing computational pipeline. Especially motivated candidates would have opportunities to present findings at national or international conferences or publish them in peer-reviewed journals. Candidates may come from a variety of backgrounds, but an ideal candidate would have a bachelor’s degree and a curiousity about retinal function and dysfunction. No particular skills or expertise are required, but candidates with interests or experience in optics, mathematics, and/or programming may find our work especially engaging. We especially encourage applications from those whose demographics are underrepresented in the life sciences and engineering. We love Python, Linux, LaTeX, Markdown, and Git. Applications reviewed until a suitable candidate is found. If you’re interested in applying but want to find out more, drop me a line.
